Its been building up for years
Carefully locked inside my head
With all the unshed tears.
Ive come to find its like an ocean
Almost forgotten; only visited on rare occasions.
Icy, sharp water racing forth to meet the surface
And sliding back, before its too late.
The perilous waters will wait;
With their icy temperature and jagged rocks
Until youre lulled back into their wake.
And then, when you find youre happiest;
Digging your toes in the sand,
Smiling at the sun as you slosh through the safer waters
The tsunami hits.
The sun shines its brightest, watching silently
As the waves recede; farther back then they ever have.
Your back is turned as the waves throw themselves upon you
Wrapping around you, dragging you back
Youve fought the sheer force before;
The panic, and quickly following it, the pain.
The icy water that swirls in your veins,
Lulling you to numbness.
As you thrash about, struggling to break free
You decide its hopeless to fight
That this time, this time
You dont want to live to see the aftermath
The destruction to your life
In the wake of the disaster.
So you give in, bending to the waters will
And you find that this time its colder than before
The rocks are sharper, the tumbling faster.
So much faster that even if you wanted to turn your back
The greedy tendrils wouldnt let you go
The waves wash over you,
You, who will never resurface,
As you are so positive of now.
